Color Tubes

I like experimenting and pushing stuff, seeing how much I can get away with. I really like material-scanning but it has it's limitations compared to photogrammetry when the objects has a lot of depth.
Material scanning is much better for microsurfaces and everything else you need to really re-create the height for by yourself.

Since my color tubes had to be shot against a neutral background I couldn't easily just mask the background out by color and had to do that externally in photoshop. Easy peasy but I like automation.
I then exposed and linked all of my tile sampler parameters so they all did the same thing using the same mask.
---
I then created the height and normals super hacky and since I couldn't rotate the normals around in the tile sampler I re-created the normals again after having the height go through the tile sampler.
It's really not good practise but I wanted to be able to create enough randomization for it to not feel too repetetive.
If I would have done this with photogrammetry I think I could have gotten even more fun results.

Just a bit of curiousa, the colors used were from an old box my grandpa had his lino cut-colors in. Some fingerprints of his are still on these and it felt super fun to take his art tools into a new medium.
