I've always been fascinated by the lovely patina older brass cameras get and I wanted to make myself a smart material for substance 3d painter that I could use in the future. The idea is to get as much of a neat look as possible out of the box regardless of what input models you're using. There's tons of parameters for the user to play around with to achive a look that goes from mint condition to a coating that is very worn and loved over the years. I was looking at very different stages of patina with my references and the trickiest bit was to figure out in what order these would appear naturally.
To achive the feeling of the material/camera being used more in some places than other, the patina masks fades in and out based on position and when applied to a camera model this would look like it's had been being held on the sides first rather than just any place on the model.
There is also smaller masks and patters to break any uniform look that might happen otherwise.
